1. Who we are
AmeriKiwi is the agency responsible for the personal information described here, for the purposes of the Privacy Act 2020. The formal entity details and a named privacy officer must be added before this statement is published.
2. What we collect
- Contact details — your name, email address and phone number.
- Delivery details — your New Zealand delivery address and postcode.
- Request details — the product links you send us, along with sizes, variants, quantities and any notes you add.
- Product page details, if you use our browser extension — see section 10 below.
- Order records — quotes, payments, purchase records, parcel measurements, photographs we take of your parcel, and tracking events.
- Account information — your sign-in identity and role.
- Basic technical information needed to keep the service running and secure.
We do not store full card numbers. When card payments are enabled they are handled by our payment processor, and we keep only a reference and the amount.
3. Why we collect it
To review whether your product can be imported, to prepare and send you a quote, to purchase the item on your behalf, to receive and forward it, to keep you updated, to meet our record-keeping obligations, and to answer you when you get in touch.
4. Who we share it with
- US retailers — the details required to place and receive your order.
- Freight carriers and couriers — the details required on shipping and customs documentation, which typically includes your name, address and a description and value of the goods.
- NZ Customs and other border agencies — where required by law.
- Our payment processor — to take payment.
- Our cloud infrastructure providers — who host the service on our behalf.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Where it is stored
AmeriKiwi runs on Google Cloud infrastructure. Some data is therefore stored and processed outside New Zealand, including in the United States. The specific regions in use, and the Privacy Act 2020 information privacy principle 12 analysis for cross-border disclosure, must be confirmed and documented here by a lawyer before launch.
6. How long we keep it
We keep order records for as long as we need them for tax, customs and dispute purposes, and then delete or anonymise them. A specific retention schedule needs to be set as part of the legal review.
7. Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Email our support address and we will respond within the statutory timeframe. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
8. Security
Access to customer data is restricted to the AmeriKiwi team members who need it. Our database rules enforce that customers can only read their own requests, quotes, orders and shipments, and that check happens on the server — never in the browser alone.
9. Cookies
We set one cookie: a signed, HTTP-only session cookie that keeps you logged in. We do not run advertising or third-party tracking cookies on this site.
10. The AmeriKiwi browser extension
The extension is optional. If you install it, it reads the product page you are looking at only at the moment you open AmeriKiwi on that page — never in the background, and never on any other tab.
When you open it on a product page, we may receive:
- The page address and the retailer's website.
- The product name, price and currency shown on the page.
- The size, colour, variant and quantity you have selected.
- The product image.
- Any manufacturer identifiers the page publishes, such as a barcode or model number.
- Anything you type into the extension before sending it to us.
The extension does not, and cannot:
- Monitor your general browsing or keep a record of the sites you visit.
- Read tabs other than the one you deliberately opened it on.
- Run on a page where you have not opened it.
- Read passwords, payment details or anything you type into a checkout form.
- Send us any part of a page other than the product details listed above.
It holds no advertising or analytics code of any kind. Nothing is sent to us until you add an item and submit it. You can remove the extension at any time from your browser’s extensions page; doing so deletes the item list and the sign-in session it stored on your computer, and does not affect requests you have already sent us.
11. Finding your item somewhere cheaper
When you send us a product, we look for the identical item — same manufacturer, same model, same size and colour — at other reputable US retailers, so that we can buy it for less where that is genuinely possible.
To do that we send the product details you gave us (its name, and identifiers such as a barcode where the page published one) to search services we use for this purpose. We do not send them your name, your address, your contact details or anything else about you, and those searches are not linked to you by the providers.
A person at AmeriKiwi reviews and approves every alternative before it is used. Nothing is bought automatically, and where a saving applies your quote shows it as its own line.
